Remix in progress, my TR808 is full of surprises

I’m working on a supercool remix for an ubercool artist (hi Eric ;), and after writing a wicked drum part on the 808, I’m recording the individual ouputs so I can de-mix it later and well well well what do I see? No two beats are the same!! despite being programmed exactly the same. This means that the machine has some kind of internal beating heart grooving as it wants to and perhaps explains why the 808 is such an amazing instrument that can’t ever been ‘copied’ or ’emulated’.
